Steel Fibre Reinforced Internal Concrete Floor Slab for Tesco, Saxmundham, Near Ipswich Suffolk

Nationwide Concrete Flooring has carried out the full design and installation of a suspended steel fibre reinforced internal concrete floor slab.
Tesco, one of the largest supermarket chains required a concrete floor slab to carry on their ever expanding business. Nationwide Concrete Flooring entered into early discussions with main contractor Blackburn’s in order to agree the best solution.

Nationwide applied a Permaban dry-shake natural topping to the surface of the concrete floor slab during the concrete finishing process. The dry shake surface hardener (also known as a sprinkle topping) helps to suppress the steel fibres at the surface of the slab and also offers enhanced abrasion characteristics to the surface finish.

The design solution to Dutch code CUR111 is itemised below:

External reinforced concrete floor slab, Stoelzle Flacconage, Knottingley, West Yorkshire

Nationwide Concrete Flooring recently carried out the design and construction of an external reinforced concrete floor slab for new client Stoelzle Flacconage, in Knottingley West Yorkshire. This project was particularly interesting as Nationwide Concrete Flooring chose to recycle existing materials on site in order to minimise cost and reduce carbon emissions.

The existing brick hardcore was crushed and compacted to form the new sub base which was laid using the laser guided sub base leveller. 16mm diameter dowel bars were installed at regular centres by Nationwide Diamond Contracts drilling and dowelling system in order to provide load transfer between existing and new slabs. Following this a 200mm deep steel reinforced high strength concrete slab was laid and completed with a rough pan finish.

Polished/Powerfloated Concrete Floor Slab Overlay For Retail Unit In Loughborough, Leicestershire

Nationwide Concrete Flooring have just completed the installation of an overlay concrete floor slab for the refurbishment of an existing retail unit at Regent Retail Park in Loughborough, Leicestershire.

Due to heavily restricted access and working hour constraints this project was extremely challenging. Large 200mm thick insulation blocks were laid underneath the floor in order to make up the levels and high strength concrete was poured through one single doorway via a mobile pump. The client required a flatness tolerance to be achieved on the completed surface of the powerfloated concrete and so with this in mind, as well as overall concrete volumes to be poured in one day Nationwide Concrete Flooring chose to use their 3.0 XD Laser Screed in conjunction with the mobile pump. The 3.0 XD Laser Screed operates in a very similar manner to that of the larger Laser Screeds but is far more suitable to working in tight spaces with poor access.

With the ambient temperature being extremely high and temperatures in the building even hotter the Nationwide Concrete Flooring finishing team had to work under difficult conditions to control an even and uniformed surface finish. Their many years experience in powerfloating and polishing concrete floor slabs was good enough to provide an excellent finished product.

Steel Fibre Reinforced Concrete Floor Slab For New Decathlon Sports Store, Warrington

Nationwide Concrete Flooring has designed and installed a fully suspended steel fibre reinforced concrete floor slab on behalf of Decathlon in Warrington, Cheshire. Decathlon, one of the largest sports retailers in the world required a concrete floor slab capable of withstanding the specific loading criteria along with an attractive aesthetic surface finish. Nationwide Concrete Flooring entered into early discussions with the client and main contractor Aventura in order to agree the best solution.

Nationwide Concrete Flooring applied a permaban dry-shake coloured topping to the surface of the concrete during the concrete finishing process. The coloured topping not only enhances the abrasion resistance of the concrete floor but also helps to reflect the light and improves the overall aesthetics of the building.
