Sub Base Preparation, Grading and Compacting
Nationwide Concrete Flooring now carries out the final grading and compacting of the sub base layer underneath the concrete floor slab using the laser guiding equipment.
The sub base compact leveller works in a similar manner to the concrete laser screed.Once the datum level and set the laser receivers moves the machine up and down to form a very accurate sub base level tolerances.
This not only minimises any potential waste of ready mixed concrete but also provided an excellent working platform during the concrete process. Using this laser controlled machinery we can achieve tolerances of at least plus or minus 10mm from overall datum.
A level sub base enhances the long term performance of the concrete floor slab as the concrete can shrink more evenly without restraint. This reduces the chance of shrinkage cracking occurring over the life span of the concrete floor slab.
Laser Screed 3.0 XD Copperhead
Nationwide's Copperhead XD 3.0 Laser Screed with laser leveling technology cuts through the concrete to the final grade, screeds it flat and vibrates it smooth, all in one pass. This negates the requirement for screed rails or wet pad screeding methods which are labour intensive and strenuous for our operatives.

SAFER PUMPING
Nationwide Concrete Flooring recently invested in the pump flex pans as shown on the photograph. The pans allow the flexes of the mobile concrete pump to be easily and safely moved across the top of the mesh or sub base working platform without catching the mesh or the ground with the clamps. This has the benefit of improving health and safety for the workforce, easing movement of the pump and hence reducing fatigue and also minimizing the chance of the pump lifting the mesh through the concrete during placement.
Once the Directors of Nationwide Concrete Flooring first trialed the pump pans on site the decision to purchase them, despite the expense, was immediately actioned due to the obvious improvement in safety whilst pumping concrete through the flexes.
Laser Screed Certification
Nationwide Concrete Flooring can now officially say that their concreting operatives have been fully trained to operate the Copperhead 3.0 XD Laser Screed. Somero Enterprises the manufacturer of the laser screed which is designed to lay new concrete floors to the required level tolerances safely, quickly and efficiently recently issued us with their first ever official certificate for operating the laser screed.
For further information on the Copperhead 3.0 XD Laser Screed either contact Jon on 07900 456665 or have a look at the Internal Floor section of our web site. We would also be happy to organise an onsite demonstration should you require, when the Laser Screed is available.
HOW IT WORKS
Nationwide's Copperhead XD 3.0 Laser Screed with laser leveling technology cuts through the concrete to the final grade, screeds it flat and vibrates it smooth, all in one pass. This negates the requirement for screed rails or wet pad screeding methods which are labour intensive and strenuous for our operatives.
Internal/External concrete floor slab innovation for jointing systems in Yorkshire
Nationwide Concrete Flooring in conjunction with Metaform jointing systems are proud to announce their first project installation of the Duo form HD steel profile permanent joint in Hull, East Yorkshire.
As shown in the photographs the steel joint is positioned and installed prior to the casting of the internal/external concrete floor slab. The joint is set to the correct finished floor level using the same laser level used whilst pouring the concrete and with the substantial bracing created by the fixing feet, also supplied by Metaform, an almost perfect straight and level shutter can be formed.
Please also note the top of the joint provides armoured protection to both sides of the concrete floor slab. This will minimise breakdown of the concrete floor slab within this section and provide the client and end user with a much more rugged detail than a more traditional joint for years to come. The square dowel shown at the mid depth of the steel profile joint is designed to transfer the load from one side of the concrete floor slab to the other. Concrete floor slabs especially in commercial and industrial environments have to withstand extremely heavy trafficking from forklifts and other mechanical handling equipment. We at Nationwide Concrete Flooring strongly recommend the use of the Metaform HD Steel profile jointing system as it has proved to be extremely successful in terms of performance and reliability. For further details either contact jon@nd-group.com, telephone 01430 436596 or alternatively Metaform direct on jp@metalscreed.com. Alternatively visit us at our Howden premises in East Yorkshire. We have a wide range of steel profile joint samples for you to see.
In the photograph you can see the Nationwide Concrete Flooring internal column isolation detail. A steel plate is welded to the flange of the column and levelled using a laser controlled system to set at the required finished floor level. Miothene insulation material is then taped to the perimeter of the steel plate to allow shrinkage control of the concrete floor slab in the early stages of the drying shrinkage process. As the photograph shows, when Nationwide Concrete Flooring casts the concrete using laser level control, the column infill can be easily completed with a small hand trowel. This method of concreting the column surround is not only more aesthetically pleasing but also a lot easier than the main contractor trying to form in timber shuttering and attempting to keep the finished levels consistent.
If you would like Nationwide Concrete Flooring to quote for this column isolation detail, or indeed other internal/ external concrete flooring solutions, then please contact us with your enquiry at jon@nd-group.com or telephone 01430 436596.

Internal concrete floor slab, Newbury, Berkshire
Nationwide Concrete Flooring Limited are pleased and proud to announce the successful completion of the internal first and second floor slabs for the proposed Vue cinema in Newbury town centre, Berkshire. The project was extremely complex as Nationwide Concrete Flooring had to work at several different levels during the same day concrete pours. A mobile concrete pump supplied by Pochin was used for each pour with up to 80 metres of flexible piping in order to allow the concrete to be poured to the workface for the Nationwide Concrete Flooring operatives to lay and finish to the required level tolerances. The Nationwide Concrete Flooring finishing team probably had the most difficult task as numerous hand held power floats were required to enable the concrete floor slabs to receive a polished and shining power floated finish over the many different levels.
Our client and the main contractor John Sisk & Son both commented on how quickly and smoothly Nationwide Concrete Flooring carried out the entire installation of the concrete floor slabs for the 6 number casting days over a period of 3 weeks.
The adjacent photograph shows the areas set up prior to the casting of the ready mixed concrete.

Concrete Floor slab for Bulk Storage
Nationwide Concrete Flooring are now building up a reputation within this fairly buoyant market place and the unique system adopted for internal concrete floor slabs used for bulk storage is proving rather popular. Photographed is our very latest project carried out on behalf of Yorkshire Feedstuffs Limited of Goole, East Yorkshire.
Our client was impressed with our innovative ideas on how to deal with the existing internal concrete floor slab and the interface details we put forward to improve the longevity of both of the internal concrete floor slabs. Shown in the photograph is our Nationwide EZ Drill concrete drilling and dowelling system which installs the 600mm steel bars at centres to suit the design. The EZ Drill concrete drilling and dowelling system offers an extremely safe, quick and accurate solution to what can be a very difficult job. The purpose of the dowel is to help transfer the load from one section of the internal concrete floor slab to the other whilst being trafficked. This will then minimise any damage caused at the interface due to heavy trafficking from both loading shovel and delivery wagons. (For further details on the Nationwide EZ Drill concrete drilling and dowelling system please see the concrete dowelling section on web site)
The internal concrete floor slab also received our other now typical details suitable for any concrete floor used for agricultural bulk storage which is our “Tight Bladed” finish to the concrete floor slab and our own Nationwide Instant Seal 101 joint sealant used in the saw cut induced contraction joints. The Instant Seal 101 joint sealant provides protection the joints to minimise break down of the edges, stops ingress into the joint of the bulk material, allows immediate trafficking of the sealed floor slab joints and aids maintenance of the concrete floor slab for the end user. (For further details on the Instant Seal 101 and other joint sealant services we offer please see sealant section on Contracts section of the web site)
If you would like us to arrange a site visit either during our works on a new internal or indeed external concrete floor slab or arrange to meet us in the office at Howden (East Yorkshire as if you didn’t know) then please do not hesitate to contact Jon Wilcox on either 07900 456665 or 01430 436596 or alternatively jon@nd-group.com.
internal concrete floor slab, Barsby Nr Leicester, Leicestershire
Nationwide Concrete Flooring Ltd have recently completed their first internal laser controlled concrete floor slab for new client Acorn Recyclers at Barsby nr Leciester. Due to the recent excessive temperatures and remote location of the project Nationwide Concrete Flooring Ltd were extremely concerned in being able to provide the quality finish that the end user required. In order to counteract these concerns Nationwide Concrete Flooring Ltd ordered a pre blended material from concrete supplier Lafarge Readymix. There was also twice the amount of finishing equipment on site in case of breakdowns and the usual labour force for this type of project was increased by 40%. Also as per the norm with Nationwide Concrete Flooring a Director was on site at all times to ensure that the laser controlled concrete floor slab installation went as smoothly as possible and provided the client with an internal concrete floor slab he can be proud of and tell all of his friends.
The internal concrete floor slab was also finished off with Nationwide Concrete Flooring Ltd standard detailing, heavy duty steel angle at the access doorway, saw cut joint layout to suit column positions and loading shovel movements and Instant Seal 101 unique joint sealant product.

Internal Concrete Steel Reinforced Concrete Suspended Floor Slabs, Bury, Nr. Manchester
Nationwide Concrete Flooring Ltd are extremely proud to announce the completion of their largest pour to date: 1400 square metres of steel mesh reinforced concrete floor slab laid in just one day 45 meters above ground level. The concrete floor slab was laid in such a short time due to the seamless requirements of the end user. Not only was Nationwide Concrete Flooring instructed to lay the vast area of concrete floor slab, but there was also a flatness requirement of +/ - 15mm from overall datum, as the concrete floor is to be used as a bowling alley once completed.
Nationwide Concrete Flooring operatives commenced the concrete pour at 8:30 a.m and the final load of concrete was discharged at 9:45 p.m. This was a marathon effort from the Nationwide Concrete Flooring team as not only was this a large area to pour but the team also had to contest with challenging working conditions.
For further information on how the concrete floor slab was installed, or indeed new or past concrete projects, please contact Jon Wilcox on 07900 456665.
Concrete Floor Slab, for the New Netto Superstore, Bradford, Yorkshire
Nationwide Concrete Flooring has completed another concrete floor slab for supermarket chain Netto in Bradford, Yorkshire.
The Concrete floor slab was particularly difficult to construct due to the extremely tight access restrictions.
From the photographs you can see that all of the concrete needed to be pumped via a mobile pump and access limited only one mixer truck on site at any one time.
1,400m2 of concrete was laid with a full power float finish in just one day. This equated to a total volume of 280m3.
